'68 2000 owned by Michael Shimniok.
I am excited to share that I finally found a roadster so I'm legit
now, not to mention completely and hopelessly addicted. :) It's a 68
2000 that I picked up the day before Thanksgiving (2001).
As for the story of my acquisition (sort of longwinded)...
I bid on the eBay car Eric Frisbee posted about, but was outbid at the
last second and was crestfallen. A couple days later, the owner
emailed! The winner passed up the car, so I made an offer and
scrambled to beat the other two guys to the prize. With Eric's tow
bar, a borrowed pickup and a day off from work, Amy (girlfriend) and I
set out on the adventure to southwest Wyoming. Seven hours later we
were hooking up the roadster to the pickup and heading back. The trip
was long but uneventful.
As for the car, the body work is... umm... well, it runs really well,
stops nicely, steering tight, tranny works fine, clutch ok, lights,
electricals, etc. Even with seatbelts in a box in the trunk, I just
had to drive the car around the block on Turkey Day. Bigtime fun!
You see, I've never owned one of these cars before, and the two I test
drove couldn't exceed 4000 rpm. This one sure can! :)
On Friday after replacing crispy vacuum hoses and a disintegrating
fuel line I couldn't resist another spin around the block. If it's
this much fun now, what's it going to be like when I get it fixed up??
Winter is going to seem very long this year. :)
