5th Anniversary and Fall Foliage Ride, Sep 19, 2004
Jack Davis reports:
We had 8 roadsters and a 240Z show up. Rob Gardner ('68 2000), John
Over ('68 2000), Add Hulse ('69 2000), John Hulse ('70 1600), Scott
Makinen ('69 2000), Geoff Parker ('70 2000), Bob Bragg and wife Paula
('68 2000), Chris Davis and her husband Jack ('70 1600), and Bruce
Over (John's brother, '73 240Z). Rich Young road shotgun with Rob
since his '66 1600 is still a work in process.
We met at Ted's Place and then headed up the canyon for lunch at
Mishiwaka. After lunch 6 of us headed up the canyon to Cameron Pass
Summit. On the way up it started to rain. But that did not stop the
intrepid WyCroc'ers. On we went, tops down, through the canyon. I
think we were near the summit when the temperature dropped and the
rain turned to sleet. I may be crazy but I am no fool. I turned off,
put the top up, and headed back down the canyon. Bob and Paula did
the same. Bob told me later he followed my lead since I am President,
and am older and wiser. I agreed to wiser but objected to the "older"
part.
The Iron Men of WyCroc (Add, John, John, and Rob) continued on and I
assume they made it to the summit. I will let them enlighten you about
their adventures.
Rob Gardner adds:
I'd like to nominate John Over for showing the best 'roadster spirit'.
First, he brought a set of #145 solex main jets for me to borrow for
the drive, and these worked vastly better than the #125's I had in the
car. And second, John's car did not have a convertible top at all,
and he made it to the Cameron Pass Summit without even the possibility
of escaping the elements! Thanks, John.
Just got back from the Poudre Canyon run. Great fun - mostly. First,
welcome to all the new people. Seems like I meet new folks every time
I make it out on one of these WyCroc runs.
The weather this morning caused me to think... If we had today's
weather on Sunday morning, I'd venture to say that we would not have
started driving up the canyon. As it turned out, we did have this
weather later in the drive, but we forged ahead anyway and made it to
the summit just a little wet and cold. I had a great time, and hope
everyone else did too! We definitely have to do these kinds of events
more often.
